Weight Loss Versus Body Mass
Learn about the difference between weight loss versus body mass. Now I know what you’re thinking. Everybody wants to “lose weight”. In fact the TV is over saturated with commercials about magic “weight loss formulas”. Even the Exercise equipment advertised targets weight loss as their main message. But what if I told you that weight loss was not the right goal?
In this airing of Dr. Andy’s Wellness Corner, your host outlines the key difference between losing weight and healthy body mass. In fact, two people can have the same height and weight. While one of them can be lean and fit, the other one could have too much body fat. Dr. Andy will uncover the problems with the Body Mass index. As the show continues, Dr. Andy will outline the ideal goal, which is lean body mass. Furthermore he will go over accurate ways of measuring body composition. This includes measuring percent body fat, muscle mass and even skeletal mass. Additionally he delves into each method and how accurate each one is.
In the last part of the show, Dr. Andy gets into the best ways to attain healthy body mass. This includes a healthy combination of eating right and exercise. It’s also important to remember that you must factor in your age and health history. Dr. Andy closes this episode by going over a client case he had in South Carolina as an example.
