Don’t want to keep taking blood? Avoid Type 2 Diabetes.

Did you know there are multiple causes for type 2 diabetes?  Sadly, Type 2 Diabetes is on the rise at an alarming rate in the United States.  In fact, chances are either you or someone you know has diabetes.  If not then it’s likely one of you is pre-diabetic.  Diabetes is a condition where there is too much sugar in your blood.  In most cases, the sugar can’t enter the cell like it’s supposed to and the most common cause is obesity.  Unlike type 1 diabetes you “earn” type 2 diabetes through your lifestyle choices.

Diabetes is much more serious than most people realize.  In fact it can lead to some life threatening illnesses including high blood pressure, blindness, kidney failure, pain and numbness in the hands and feet, coma and even death.   Unfortunately, medicine only has 2 solutions.  These include insulin or risky drugs that remove sugar through the kidneys.  The problem is there are multiple causes, and the cause is rarely addressed.  Before we get into that, let’s talk about how your body uses sugar.

The first thing to know is that sugar (and other nutrients) can’t simply enter the cell.  The cell has a unique gate for each type of nutrient.  That gate remains closed.  In order for that gate to open, another chemical has to bind to the cell.  In the case of sugar, insulin has to bind to the insulin receptor on the cell.  When that happens a unique gate opens allowing sugar to enter the cell.  Insulin is produced in the tail of pancreas.

The common Medical Approach

The most common medical approach is to give the patient insulin.  In some cases that may help.  However, when Doctors give you insulin they assume your body isn’t making enough.  However, what if your body is making enough insulin?  In fact there are several other ways to prevent sugar from entering the cell.

Other Factors

Did you know stress reduces the amount of insulin receptors on the cell?  In that case, you can have all the insulin you want but sugar still can’t enter the cell.  Of course the most common problem is SAD – the Standard American Diet, which is high in sugar.  If you bombard your body with more sugar than it can handle, your body can’t keep up and you end up with too much sugar in the blood.  Lastly, as you age your body’s ability to metabolize sugar goes down.

Our Approach

So what can you do to help your body maintain healthy blood sugar levels?  The first and most important thing you can do is eliminate simple sugars from your diet, and reduce your carbohydrate intake significantly.  Now it’s important to know that carbs ARE A NECESSARY FOOD GROUP, but the best way to get them is through complex carbs from organic fruits and vegetables.  Additionally help enzyme nutrition may be able to help.  While we don’t treat Type 2 Diabetes, we can help your body use sugar properly.  Furthermore we can help your pancreas work properly.  We can even help your cells absorb sugar properly.  It’s crucial to remember the CDC states that you CAN AVOID OR REVERSE type 2 diabetes with the right lifestyle changes.
