Supplement Scams
Supplement Scams or Supplement Value?

Supplement Scams.  As I’ve stated in the past we live in an amazing era.  This is because we now have greater access to more supplements and natural remedies than ever before.  Conversely, this has created a double edged sword.  On one hand, we do have access to a wide variety of effective natural health remedies that can help or bodies work properly.  On the other hand, it has created an environment where companies can make claims and sell “snake oil” products.  Unfortunately these particular products are nothing but a scam.  In this article, I will teach you some red flags to look out for when looking at supplements.  I will also outline how my office refuses to sell snake oil, but rather use science and sound medical principles to help your body work right.

Did you know most people make purchasing decisions based on emotion more than fact?  Let’s face it we all know “anti-aging” is a complete scam, but how many Americans spend tons of money on “anti-aging” products?  This is because many of them want to believe they work even though they don’t.  Unfortunately, companies know this and gear their advertising towards your emotions rather than science.  Here are some key phrases to watch out for.  And, of course, that’s why we have supplement scams.

What to Watch Out For

Before we get into key phrases to watch out for, it’s important to remember the law.  If you recall, according to the FDA, supplements are not allowed to make any claims regarding the diagnosis or treatment of any disease.  What they can say, however, is they can support healthy function of [fill in the blank].  In fact, if you’re an avid reader of my material or listen to my radio show, you’ll notice I always phrase things that way.  Whether we agree with that or not, it’s the law.

So what are some red flags to watch out for?  Well, here they are:  “anti-aging” (of course), or “miracle cure” (or any supplement with the word “cure” in it), or “secret ingredient”.  Be wary of any claim that has a time frame around it such as “lose XX pounds in YY days!”  It’s also important to note that just because something is “all natural” doesn’t make it safe.  Just think, poisonous mushrooms are all natural.

Why We’re Different

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition and Chiropractic, we promote a healthy functioning body.  We do not make false claims about supplements treating disease.  Additionally, we use testing based on sound scientific principles.  Do you suffer from chronic health problems?

Does it affect your work, play or family?  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
