Chiropractic improves hand-eye coordination. Recent research from PLOS-1 shows improved hand-eye coordination for people under chiropractic care. In order to understand this, let me explain how this works. Your senses detect a change in your environment. In fact, these changes range from temperature from the skin, movement from the eyes, sounds from your ears, or aromas from your nose. First, the signal travels to the brain. Afterwards, the brain figures out an appropriate response. Next, your brain sends signals to a part of your brain called the cerebellum. The cerebellum sends signals down the spinal cords so your body can react to the original sense.
How It Works
Ok, that’s complicated. Let me give you an example. Let’s say you’re a catcher. your eyes pick you your pitcher’s wind-up. Then, your eyes send signals to the brain to expect to catch a high inside fastball at about 95mph. Next, your brain sends signals to the cerebellum, which coordinates movement of your arms, legs, body, head and hands to catch the ball.
As a result, it comes as no surprise that most professional athletes receive regular chiropractic care. As a result, most major sports teams employ a doctor of chiropractor on staff. In fact, the doctor even travels with the team. Chiropractic not only provides injury treatment, but it can improve hand-eye coordination enhancing an athlete’s performance during a game. Why? Because research shows Chiropractic improves hand-eye coordination.
