Medications Linked to Allergies and Asthma.  With allergies and asthma on the rise since the 1980’s, one has to wonder what has changed.  However, remember that it takes genes thousands of years to change.  On top of that, our genetic makeup hasn’t change since we started walking on this planet.  In that case, what is the source if the increase in allergies and asthma?  According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), certain medications may be at fault.

Sadly, all allergic reactions, including asthma, are the result of mistaken identity.  In fact, when you expose yourself to things like pollen, dust, pet dander or other allergens, your immune system attacks them.  Unfortunately, your immune system thinks they’re a foreign invader.  In fact, asthma is simply when your immune system attacks these things in the lungs or airways.  So, why in the world would your immune system start attacking something you’ve been exposed to all your life?  Otherwise, you would not suffer from allergies.

The Study

Recently, a new study was published in JAMA Pediatrics. In fact, the study suggests that certain medications are partly to blame.  In fact, the study blamed certain acid-suppressive medications and antibiotics during infancy for these allergic diseases.  Sadly, these diseases include asthma and general allergies.  The common ones are Prilosec, Nexium, ranitidine, lansoprazole and omeprazole.  Sadly, these are the most commonly used medications in America, according to a study by IRI.

According to Dr. Edward Mitre, about 8% of all children received a prescription for acid control.  Dr. Mitre was the lead author of the study.  Dr. Mitre is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.
In fact, often your immune system is over active because of toxins.  As toxins build up in your body, your immune system goes on high alert.  Why?  Because your body knows toxins shouldn’t be there.  Afterwards, your immune system aggressively attacks anything foreign.  Sadly, while medication has its place, drugs contain many harmful toxins.  In fact, this could be why these drugs cause allergies.  However, I need to clarify that medications has its place.  Under the right circumstances, it saves lives.
At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a complete approach to asthma.  First, our gentle and precise pediatric chiropractic techniques may help reduce asthma attacks.  After that, the right enzyme supplements can support healthy lung and immune function.  Of course, we only make recommendations after testing.  In fact, our testing is based on sound medical principals.  In addition, Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.

Heartburn Drugs Shorten Your Life

Heartburn Drugs Shorten Your Life.  For those of you who follow my articles, you know some of the dangers of these controversial meds.  As it turns out the research against these drugs keeps mounting.  The British Medical Journal published research showing protein pump inhibitors increase the risk of death.

Heartburn Drugs Shorten Your Life.  In fact the British Medical Journal (BMJ) published research on July 4th of 2017.  This research clearly outlines the many health risks that come from taking protein pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as Nexium, Prilosec and omeprazole.  If you follow my articles, you already know about some of them, which include cancer, kidney failure, osteoporosis, heart failure and disease and increased risk of certain infections.  According to the BMJ, we can now add pneumonia, dementia and bone fractures to the list.

According to  Consumer Reports, PPIs are one of the highest-selling drugs in the U.S. In fact sales were $9.5 billion in 2014.  Not only do they have some serious long term effects, they are also habit forming.  That is, once you start taking PPIs, your body develops a dependency to them.  In addition, the BMJ also concludes that people who used proton-pump inhibitors experienced a 25% heightened risk of death from all causes.  Consumers turn to this questionable drug to ease symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux and GERD.

When questioned, AstraZeneca, a maker of two popular PPIs, made the following statement:
“We are confident in the safety and efficacy of Nexium and Prilosec when used in accordance with the FDA approved label, which has been established through numerous clinical trials,” said Alexandra Engel, a spokeswoman for AstraZeneca.  This company was not involved in the new study.

Our Approach

Your acid production is a direct result of your digestive health. And while I don’t diagnose or treat any disease (including heartburn, acid reflux or GERD), I can help support healthy digestion. And of course this, in turn, promotes healthy stomach acid levels. I provide this support with a specific plan. And this plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.

Are you concerned about stomach health? Is your condition painful when it hits?  Are you missing out on work family or fun? Or are you constantly “popping” antacids or PPI’s?   If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
