Opioids for Chronic Pain – stopping helps.

Opioids for Chronic Pain – Tapering off can actually help.  Did you know over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain?  This comes from the American Academy of Pain Medicine.   Sadly, the go-to medication is narcotics.  However, the long-term use also carries an increased risk of addiction and overdose.  Sadly, an opioid overdose epidemic is ravaging the United States.  In fact, it killed more than 33,000 people in 2015.  What’s worse, is that half of them were due to prescribed drugs.

Do you take opioids for chronic pain?  Did you know that the same research showed that tapering off these harmful medications and gradually adding mind body therapies as well as physical modalities such as chiropractic and physical therapy?  The article states that a teamwork or combined approach seems to work best.  It’s important to remember that opioid abuse, both prescribed and illegal is a serious epidemic in the United States.  In either case it is addictive, habit forming and it’s effectiveness weakens over time.  This creates the need for higher and higher dosages.  In fact that’s how this drug forms an addiction.

It’s also important to remember that while modern medicine uses them to treat chronic, their original intent was only short term use.  Every medical intervention does serve a purpose.  In fact certain medical treatments are only a problem if they are over used or misused.  Sadly these medications are often used long term for pain management, and this is where the fundamental problem lies.

Digestion Plays a key Role

What most people fail to realize is that your digestive health may be the key to your chronic pain.  If your gut isn’t working properly, it can lead to a condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome.  This in turn can lead to a whole host of symptoms including fatigue and chronic pain   And while I don’t diagnose or treat any disease (including chronic pain), I can help support healthy digestion.  And of course this, in turn, prevents leaky gut which can support healthy digestion.  We can also combine nutrition with the right combination of home exercises, and traditional or low force chiropractic care.

As it follows, this may prevent chronic pain. I provide this support with a specific plan. And this plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.  Sometimes chiropractic care can help too, but chronic pain varies so much that depends on the patient.

Concerned about Opioid Use?

Are you concerned about digestive health? Do you suffer from chronic pain?   Are you missing out on work family or fun? If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
