Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D, Enzymes

Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D:  Alzheimer’s is a frustrating and limiting disease affecting our elderly.  This horrible disease prevents new memories from forming.  As a result, it is not only difficult for the patient, but their loved ones as well.  Recent research shows that there may be a link between low vitamin D and Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D.  Alzheimer’s disease is on the rise in America.  Sadly, as our baby boomer generations age, this may be expected.  Alzheimer’s disease prevents new events and experiences from becoming long term memories.  Let me explain.  When you experience something new, it goes into your short-term memory.  If you use or remember it long enough, it will move into mid-term memory.  However, after enough recall, practice, or thought, these new experiences will eventually store themselves into long-term memory.  This means you can recall the information years later.

Research: Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D

If you suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, you cannot transform these new experiences into long-term memory.  However, you still remember everything you knew before the disease hit.  So, just how can vitamin D help, and where do enzyme play a role?  According to the World Health Organization, the Risk for Alzheimer’s is 122% greater if you have severely low vitamin D levels.  If your vitamin D levels are moderately low, you still have a 69% greater risk.

However, other strong research also exists.  The Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA), PubMed, and Neurology Journal all published articles supporting the strong connection between Alzheimer’s and Low Vitamin D.   You must also understand that your body can only get a little vitamin D from your diet.  The rest has to come from sunlight exposure.  But there’s another crucial step.

Enzymes and Vitamin D

Just what is that crucial step?  It’s enzymes.  In fact, enzymes play two key roles.  First, since Vitamin D is a healthy fat, the right digestive enzymes can help you digest and absorb Vitamin D properly.  Second, your body requires certain metabolic enzymes to help your body use vitamin d for brain and nerve health.

In fact, according to the Journal of Gerontology:  “Vitamin D is primarily synthesized in the skin upon exposure to sunlight; smaller amounts are obtained through dietary intake. More recently, enzymes responsible for the synthesis of its active form have been found to be distributed throughout the human brain.”

The Enzyme Advantage

This is why we focus on enzyme at Redmond Ridge Nutrition and Chiropractic.  In fact, enzymes are the only chemical in the body that can actually do work.  Sadly, as you age, your body’s ability to make enzymes decreases.  Using the right combination of digestive and metabolic enzyme supplements can help your body digest, absorb, make and use Vitamin D properly to support healthy brain function.

Chiropractic is healthy.  Recently, Spine Journal published a study on the growing popularity of chiropractic.  While most people seek chiropractic for neck and low back pain, they discover a host of benefits.  First of all, how can chiropractic help with issues not related to pain.  Secondly, why aren’t more medical professionals referring patients for chiropractic treatment?

In order to answer the first question, I need to explain how your body works.  Your body has a complex network of “wires”, or nerves.  While some of these nerves send information to your brain about your environment, other send information from the brain to all of your organs and tissues.  Since our environment always changes, our body needs to change to adapt. First your body detects these changes.  Afterwards, your brain makes decisions on how to adapt or react to those changes.  Lastly, your brain sends orders down action nerves.  These orders contain detailed information for specific organs.  Furthermore, the information tells your organs how to adapt to your surroundings.

Nerves Aren’t Just for Pain

Before I continue, I need to ask a question.  Just how much of that sounds like it’s involved in pain?  Surprisingly, many Americans believe that nerves only carry pain signals.  In fact, I often ask my audiences what percentage of nerves deal with pain.  Most people answer 100%.  However, did you know that less than 8% of your nerves deal with pain?  In contrast, the other 92% control every organ, tissue, system, cell, and function in your body.  In fact, the weight of a dime is enough to reduce nerve signals by 80%.  As a result, it doesn’t take much.

As it turns out, chiropractic works with that very network.  The careful use of precise spinal corrections takes pressure off of valuable nerves.  This allows free communication between the brain and the body.  That way, the body is able to send accurate information about your surroundings.  Afterwards, you brain can effectively tell your body how to adapt.  This is why many chiropractic patients report improvements in other aspects of their health as a result of care.  What other aspects, they vary from improvements in blood pressure readings, increased focus, less depression and much more.  Since the brain controls every function, just about any function can improve.  This is why chiropractic is healthy.

Why Don’t More Doctors use Us?

So, why don’t more doctors recommend chiropractic care?  After all, chiropractors are cost effective.  You have to remember that these days, medical doctors don’t work in private practice.  Instead, they work for hospitals that are essentially corporate conglomerates.  As a result, hospitals train them to keep business within their corporation.  So, if you suggest chiropractic, your medical doctor will likely send you to physical therapy.  In fact, they pretty much ignore your suggestion.

Why? You see, the hospital employs physical therapists as part of their staff.  Sadly, they don’t employ chiropractors.  So when your M.D. performs the old bait and switch, they have their employer’s best interests in mind.

A Holistic Approach

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a multistep approach to your health and wellness.  First our precise chiropractic techniques take pressure of vital nerves.  After all, chiropractic is healthy.  In addition, we use the right enzyme supplements to find stress organs and support their healthy function.  Of course, we only recommend treatment and supplements after testing that is based on sound medical principals.  Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric chiropractic professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.
