Insomnia? Try improving gut health.

Insomnia? Try improving gut health.  Did you know that between 50 and 70 million Americans like you suffered from sleep problems in 2017?  In fact, this information comes from the CDC.  However, hope exists.  Cutting edge research shows that improving your gut health can improve your sleep.

Insomnia? Try improving gut health.  Research from a top neuroscience journal published in January of 2017 showed that if you improve your gut health, you can improve your sleep.  This study was so ground-breaking that “Frontiers in Behavior Neuroscience” published the article.

Less Sleep, Shorter Life

For starters did you know that insomnia taxes your immune system the exact same way an infection does?  So, if you compromise your immune system through sleep deprivation, what happens when you catch a cold?   You’ve basically overwhelmed your immune system.  As a result, your immune system cannot keep up with demand.  However, there are many other long-term effects to sleep deprivation, including a shorter life span.  In fact, studies exist to back this up.

So just what are all of the complications of staying up too late?   For starters, did you know that driving while tired is about the same as driving with a 0.10 blood alcohol level?  That’s right, driving while tired is the same as driving drunk.  As I stated earlier some 50-70 million Americans just like you suffer from insomnia.

While the study focused on gut friendly foods and probiotics, a word of caution is important. After all, your body should support a healthy population all by itself.  As a result, constantly downing probiotics addresses the symptom, and not the cause.  It’s important to use the right combination of diet and enzyme supplements to create a healthy mucous layer.  Once your gut has a healthy mucous layer, your probiotics will thrive on their own.

Some Dietary Tips

In fact, here is a list of gut-friendly foods: Apples, Asparagus, Banana, Beetroot, Breast milk, Burdock root, Cashews, Chicory root, Couscous, Fennel bulb, Garlic, Grapefruit, Green peas, Jerusalem artichokes, Jicama, Konjac root, Leeks, Nectarines, Onion, Persimmon, Pistachios, Pomegranate, Savoy cabbage, Seaweed, Shallots, Snow peas, Tamarillo

Please remember to ferment your grains and beans and soak all nuts until they sprout.

Conversely, here is a list of things that can compromise gut health: Antibiotics, Conventionally raised meats, Processed foods, Excessive sugars, Agricultural chemicals, Antibacterial soap.

However, if this is a long-term problem, your healthy mucous layer was replaced by unhealthy biofilm.  Sadly, we have to get rid of the bio film first.

Our Unique Approach

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition, we take a comprehensive approach to gut health.  If biofilm is present, we use the right enzymes to break it down first.  Then the right combination of enzymes can create healthy mucous layers in the stomach, small intestines and large intestines.  Once each layer is healthy, then we can use the right prebiotics and probiotics to repopulate.  Once we repopulate, there is no need to continue taking them.
