Infertility, the unknown problem.  Of course, there are many reasons for the decline.  Some are social, others economic, but still others are health related.  Since this is a wellness publication, this article will focus on the health-related issues.

Whenever a women comes into my office for a consult wanting support for healthy fertility, I end up asking the same question.  “Where’s your husband?”  The woman always looks shocked.  Once the initial surprise wears off, I explain how it takes two to make a child.  Unfortunately, when there is a problem procreating, the woman usually ends up seeking help.  However, the problem may not lie with her.  In fact, this next statistic will surprise you.

Did you know that the average sperm count in America is steadily falling?  According to an article in the New York Times, decreasing sperm count is a 50-year-old problem.  Sadly, there are many reasons for this.  The main ones include stress and diet.  The food we eat is higher in estrogen.  In males, estrogen decreases fertility.  Of course, this includes a decline in sperm production.

Stress and Infertility

Yet another reason for decreased fertility in both men and women is stress.  The chronic stress you live in today keeps stress hormones in your system much longer than intended.  These hormones aid your body in an emergency situation; fight or flight.  Because of this, these hormones take energy away from systems.  Why?  Because these systems don’t play a role in immediate survival.  Reproduction and digestion are just a few of those functions.  In fact, these hormones not only decrease fertility, but libido as well.

In women, the problem is two-fold.  The drastic combination of a low-fat diet paired with high estrogen levels in food causes a two-pronged problem.  The high estrogen diet works like a mild form of birth control.  In fact, many birth control pills work in a similar way by boosting estrogen levels, progesterone levels, or both.  Meanwhile, your female hormones are made from healthy fats.  So, by eating a low-fat diet, you are depriving your body of the raw materials it needs for healthy fertility.

The Right Enzymes

While enzyme supplements do not diagnose or treat disease, they can help your body work properly.  This includes nutritional support for healthy sperm production, hormone production, or even healthy stress hormone levels.  This first step is to conduct scientific tests based on sound medical principles.  These tests help us to identify the actual source of stress.  This can range from endocrine stress, an overactive stress response, or even the inability to digest, absorb and use certain types of foods needed for healthy sperm and hormone production.  Once we identify the source of stress, the right dietary changes paired with specific high-quality enzyme supplements may help your body work properly to support healthy fertility.

Chronic Neck Pain Nutrition – your pain may be Nutritional.  According to WebMD, over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic neck pain.  In fact treatment costs our nation over 600 billion dollars per year between treatment and missed work.  For immediate relief, many turn to medications, physical therapy and chiropractic care.  In fact, these are great options if your neck pain  came from physical stress.  But if what nutritional stress caused your neck pain?  Then physical treatments will only provide temporary relief.

So how can you tell if your neck pain may be from a nutritional problem rather than a physical problem?  Here are some other symptoms you might see:

  • Stiffness in the morning, or after rest
  • Chronic pain in the neck, upper ribs and/or shoulder(s)
  • Dry Skin, Dandruff, or Hair Loss,
  • Difficulty conceiving (women), or low sperm count (men)
  • Frequent blisters or cold sores
  • Scaly skin patches

So what does this mean?  How do you alter your diet to address the problem?  These are signs that either your not getting enough healthy fats in your diet, or, your body has trouble processing them.  If you’re not getting enough, simple increase healthy fats and iodine in your diet.  But what if you’re getting enough from your diet and still have some of these issues?  In these cases it means your body may have trouble digesting, absorbing or using healthy fats.  In these cases, blood tests will usually show high triglycerides and indications of slow metabolism.  Meanwhile a 24 hour urine analysis will show high calcium loss.

Our Approach

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic, we use a scientific approach to see how your body digests and uses healthy fats.  These tests can include an organ stress test, a 24 hour urine analysis, and possible blood work.  Our testing and analysis is based on sound medical principals.  Once we have a clear understanding of where the stress lies, the proper dietary changes and enzyme supplements help your body work the way it’s supposed to.

Do you suffer from chronic neck pain?   Or perhaps you have some of the symptoms I listed earlier.  Are you missing out on work family or fun? If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
