Cancer Patients Lack Potassium

Cancer Patients Lack Potassium.  Do you know what the trending mineral supplement is these days?  Well, it’s magnesium.  Meanwhile, others turn to calcium and even chromium for health and wellness.  Sadly, many ignore a mineral deficiency that may lead to cancer.

Cancer Patients Lack Potassium.   Actually, most Americans don’t eat enough potassium.  In a 2012 survey from the Food Surveys Research Group, your body needs about 4700 milligrams of potassium daily.  Unfortunately, the average American gets only about 2640 milligrams per day.  Potassium is a mineral that helps maintain a healthy fluid balance in our body. It also plays an important role in making sure our nerves and muscles work effectively.

The Research Goes WAY Back

In the 1950’s, The natural medicine pioneer, Max Gerson, MD, pioneered regarding cancer and metabolism. As a matter of fact, one of the conditions Gerson focused on was potassium deficiency. Furthermore, Gerson discovered that balanced potassium levels are vital for prevention.

In fact, according to Pub Med, 2015, potassium can help your body support healthy blood pressure levels.  How?  Potassium can help your body counter balance the effects of too much salt in your blood.  Excess salt in the blood is a leading cause of hypertension or high blood pressure.

The Cancer Potassium Connection

While all of that sounds helpful and interesting, how can low potassium lead to cancer?  The answer lies within your cells.  In fact, your cells use potassium to make energy, or ATP.  ATP is basically energy at the cell level.  However, cancer cells do not make ATP.  As a result, if you lack potassium, your normal cells cannot thrive.  On the flip side, cancer cells can thrive.  So, if cancer patients lack potassium, the problem only gets worse.

When stress affects the cells of your body, several things happen.  First, the cell loses potassium. Second, the cell accepts more sodium. Third, the cell swells with too much water.  This is called cellular edema. The result of this is that normal cells lose the ability to generate energy (ATP) in a healthy way. Afterwards, the cells are vulnerable to mutation; AKA cancer.

Signs of Potassium Deficiency

While every case is unique, and there are multiple conditions that can lead to the following symptoms, here are some signs of potassium deficiency.  However, before I list them, I need to make one thing clear.  If you suffer from lack of potassium, you there could be two problems.  First, you may not be getting enough, or second, your body isn’t absorbing or using it properly.  Here are some signs of a potassium problem.  These signs include: fatigue and weakness, constipation, muscle cramps, or an irregular heartbeat.  Since other serious diseases can also cause these symptoms, it’s crucial to see a qualified healthcare provider, rather than try to self-diagnose the problem.

Potassium Needs Enzymes

Potassium is known as an alkaline metal or mineral.  In order for your body to use these minerals properly, it requires enzymes.  Sadly, by age 40, your body can’t make enzymes like it used to.  In fact, your body makes 70% less enzymes by age 40.  As a result, adding potassium to your diet may not be enough.  This is why I focus on enzyme nutrition.  While you can get the proper nutrients in your diet, the right enzyme supplements help your body use those vital nutrients properly to support a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Hypertension / High Blood Pressure? It may not be Salt…

Hypertension or High Blood Pressure? It may not be Salt…  That’s right.  Perhaps your doctor recently diagnosed you with high blood pressure.  If he/she did, they probably told you to cut down your salt intake.  However, salt may not be the culprit.

Hypertension? It may not be Salt…

Before I continue, I need to explain why high blood pressure, also known as hypertension is so dangerous.  While hypertension isn’t a problem on its own, high blood pressure can cause some pretty serious issues.  These issues include heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and even blindness.  In fact, do you know the number one cause of high blood pressure?  It’s actually type 2 diabetes.  After all, what causes type 2 diabetes?  Too much sugar in the blood.

In order to understand this, let me explain some simple chemistry.  Whenever you dissolve anything in a liquid, chemistry wants to balance the ratio of dissolved stuff to the amount of liquid.  Surprisingly, it does not matter what that “stuff” is.  It could be salt, sugar, mud, faery dust or anything else.  So, lets run a little experiment…

The Experiment

Let’s connect two jars with a tube at the bottom of each jar.  Next, we’ll place a filter on either end of the tube that only allows water through.  Afterwards, will fill both jars exactly 1/2 way up with water.  Next, we’ll place 8 grams of sugar in one jar, and 4 grams in the other.  You will see water move from the jar that has 4 grams to the jar that has 8 grams.  Why?  The system is trying to maintain the same mix of sugar to water in both jars.  In order to balance them it, it has to move water from the jar with low sugar to the jar with high sugar.  See the diagram below.

So, how does this affect the human body?  When you eat too much sugar, salt, mud or faery dust, it stays in the blood stream. Like the filters in the jars, only water can move freely into and out of your cells.  Like the jars, your body wants an equal balance of water to “stuff” both in the cell and out of the cell.  As a result, water rushes out of the cell into the blood stream.  If more fluid is needed, your kidneys will recycle more water back into your body to make up the difference.  So, what happens when you have more water in your arteries?  Well, what happens when you push more water through a hose?  Obviously, you get increased pressure.  As a result, even sugar substitutes can cause hypertension.

Address the Source of Stress

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic, we take a comprehensive approach to supporting healthy blood volume.  First, our scientific nutritional testing helps us find the cause of your chemical imbalance.  Next, research shows that chiropractic can help support healthy blood pressure.  Together with the right exercise, dietary changes and enzyme supplements, we can help your heart, blood vessels, kidneys and blood chemistry to work properly.

Heart Healthy Foods and Enzymes – The Total Heart Health Package

Most people fail to realize that heart health is about more than avoiding fast foods and processed foods.  In fact, there are actually heart healthy foods you can eat that support healthy blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and even prevent obesity.  Why is this important?  Because obesity, inflammation, and are the cardinal warning signs that heart disease may lie in your future.  So here is a list of heart friendly foods that support heart health and healthy body mass.

Oats and Barley

The first two heart healthy foods are oats and barley.  According to Pub Med, 2009, not only do these foods reduce cholesterol production in the liver, but they promote the creation of healthy short chain fatty acids.  Additionally, they show promise for supporting healthy immune system function.  For those of you who like the technical details, oats and barley contain a chemical called Beta-glucans.  Beta-glucans are polysaccharides occurring in the bran of barley and oats.  However, be sure that your oats are organic or steel cut.  Why is this important?  because otherwise the food company probably used flour to keep them from sticking together.  Flour, of course, is a simple carb that is notorious for causing inflammation, weight gain and high cholesterol.

Certain Seafoods

Other heart healthy foods include fatty fish.  These include salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, herring, lake trout, and sardines.  In fact, they also include crustaceans such as lobster, oysters and squid.  Furthermore, the high protein content in these seafood morsels provide a host of other health benefits.  These foods contain health-protective omega-3s, specifically the long-chain variety known as LC omega-3, which contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).  All of these fatty acids lower risk of heart attack, and stroke according to Pub Med, 2010.

Additionally, human clinical trials show long-chain omega-3s to be very heart and brain healthy.  These trials strongly show that healthy omega 3’s help prevent heart attacks by helping the heart maintain its rhythm. Studies also show that they also make blood less likely to clot, lower blood pressure, keep blood vessels healthy and less likely to narrow, reduce triglycerides and lower inflammation.  However, a high simple carb diet will not only stop this process, but reverse it as well.  See my previous article for more information.

Where do Enzyme fit in?

So, you’re eating a healthy diet.  You exercise properly and regularly.  How in the world can enzymes support healthy heart function?  I’m glad you asked.  In fact, they support healthy heart function two ways.  First, the right digestive enzyme supplements help your body break down, digest, and absorb the fatty acids from omega-3’s and the protein and complex carbs from barley and oats.  Afterwards, the right systemic enzyme supplements help your heart, brain and blood vessels utilize this vital nutrition.  Additionally, the right enzyme supplements support healthy low inflammation levels.  So, how do we know what enzyme supplements are right for you?  Through testing that is scientifically sound and based on fundamental medical principles.

Would you like to know more?

Are you concerned about the health of your heart?  Maybe you’re concerned about a parent, grandparent, friend or loved one.   Does it affect work, family or fun?  Would you like to find out how to support healthy heart function safely and effectively without drugs or surgery?  If so, contact us and set up a consultation or call us at 425-868-0120.  I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis, which is trusted by both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  This will help me determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Metabolic Syndrome.  Medical professionals coined this term in 1947.  However, it gained popularity in the 1970’s and faded in the new millennium.  So what exactly is metabolic syndrome?  Metabolic syndrome is a collection of borderline problems including high body fat, blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood chemistry.  So just what exactly does it mean?  It means that if you have metabolic syndrome, and you don’t do anything about it, you’ll experience serious health problems down the road.  In fact according to the Merck Manual, over 40% of adults over 50 suffer from it.

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of “early warning signs.” This signs often indicate that some serious health problems will arise in your future.  Those health problems include type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, chronic inflammation and kidney problems.  Another common sign is a large waist size indicating too much belly fat.  We refer to this as a pear shaped body instead of an apple shape.  In fact according to the Merck Manual, low testosterone in men and a history of polycystic ovaries in women can also lead to this condition.

The Medical Approach

Sadly, medical practitioners rarely talk about it these days.  This is unfortunate.  Why?  While it’s not a serious problem by itself, it does mean you’re headed towards some serious life shortening chronic diseases.  Sadly, when medical professionals do intervene, treatment usually includes medication do address the symptoms.  These medications basically treat high blood sugar, or high blood pressure, or cholesterol.  However, there are two major problems with this approach.  The first problem is that these medications deal with the complications, not the actual problem.  Secondly, the drugs come with some serious side effects.

Our Approach

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition and Chiropractic, while we don’t treat metabolic syndrome, we can help support healthy sugar metabolism, healthy body composition, and healthy heart function.  We can even help support healthy body mass.  We do this through specific customized dietary changes, and the right enzyme supplements based on your test results.  Of course our testing is scientific and based on sound medical principals.  We can even design an exercise program for you.

Is your health borderline?  Do you have too much belly fat?  Are you concerned that your health is headed towards a downward spiral?  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Blood Pressure Medication can Shorten your Life

Blood pressure medication can shorten life.  While every medication has its place, doctors often administer blood pressure medication to people who are border line.  According to a huge study by Kaiser Permanente, this may not be the best idea.  In fact, it could shorten your life.

Blood pressure medication can shorten life.  The Merck Manual defines high blood pressure as systolic pressure over 140 mmHg, diastolic pressure over 90 mmHg, or both.  If you have high blood pressure, it can lead to a host of serious health problems.  As a result, you really need to take care of it.  Of course, diet and exercise are the best ways to handle it.  Even the almighty Merck Manual agrees.  In case you’re wondering, the Merck Manual is the text book on diseases.  In fact most health care education programs use it from medical school to chiropractic school.

If you have high blood pressure and can’t control it through diet and exercise, medical intervention may be your only choice.  Again, left untreated high blood pressure can lead to blindness, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure and death. So please don’t mistake this article as stating that high blood pressure medication is bad in all circumstances.  Like everything, it has its place.

The Research

However, Kaiser Permanente conducted a study where they analyzed over 400,000 hospital records.  Of course all of them were taking medication.  They found that patients whose readings were between 130/60 and 139/79 — a range doctors consider “pre-hypertension” — had the lowest kidney failure rates. However, patients with “ideal” readings had a much higher risk of kidney failure.

“Many studies of people with high blood pressure have shown that bringing extremely high blood pressure with the top number ranging from 190 to 200, down to readings of about 150 show resounding improvements in the risk for strokes, kidney failure, and heart attack,” said study leader nephrologist and hypertension expert John J. Sim, M.D.

So, we made the assumption that if we further lowered it, even to levels under 120, that would be even better,” he told Newsmax Health. “The truth is that no studies have demonstrated that.”

One of the main reasons doctors prescribe these drugs is to bring down the systolic blood pressure to 120 or lower.  Remember that’s the top number.  However, given what we now know, this may be a fatal mistake.  In fact the study showed patients whose top (systolic) readings dropped into the 120 to 129 range had about a 12% increased risk of death or kidney failure.  However, those with readings between 110 and 119 were 81 percent more likely to die or suffer kidney failure.

Dr. Sim made a point to emphasize this only applies to those whose reduced their blood pressure with medication.  It does not apply to those with naturally low blood pressure.

Multiple Causes

You have to remember that many problems can lead to high blood pressure.  These include adrenal problems, kidney problems, liver problems, heart problems, and brain problems; not to mention dietary issues.

While I don’t treat diseases, including high blood pressure, I can help your body work the way it’s supposed to.  This includes nutritional support for healthy function of the adrenals glands, kidneys, heart, liver and brain.  This support includes dietary changes with the right enzyme supplements. Research also shows that chiropractic may help support healthy blood pressure.  However, I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.

Are you concerned about your health?  Does your ailment affect your work, family life or active lifestyle?  Would you like to support a healthy body safely, naturally and effectively?  Would you like to avoid drugs or surgery?  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation.
