I think by now most people have suffered at least one sprained ankle in their life. While this injury is annoying, it’s not very serious and heals over time. However, new research suggests that if there is a history of ankle injuries in your past, your risk of certain ailments is also higher. These problems include arthritis, chronic pain, and heart and lung problems.

While the study can’t prove cause and effect, it DOES show the importance of proper treatment and rehabilitation. The study surveyed over 3500 adults. Well over half of subjects reported some sort of sprained ankle in their past. Those with such a history stated they currently had more difficulty with their daily activities. In fact there was a 10% increase versus those who were not injured. Furthermore, rates of chronic body pain were over 11% higher in those with a history of ankle injuries. The study also found an 8% increase in respiratory and heart problems in the very same group.
This information comes from WebMD, who published it in June of 2016. In fact researchers concluded that health care providers need to treat ankle injuries more seriously. Now I know what you’re thinking. You mean ankle injuries are actually related to internal health issues? It’s important to remember that there is direct connection between your body mechanics and the function of your organs. In fact, without getting too technical, several links exist. Each of these links as a two way connection. That means when you stress one, it automatically stresses the other. So if your mechanical body is stressed (i.e. an ankle injury), certain organs will also suffer from that stress. Sadly, few health care providers factor in this basic physiological link.
Our Approach Uses this Connection
