Hypertension / High Blood Pressure? It may not be Salt…

Hypertension or High Blood Pressure? It may not be Salt…  That’s right.  Perhaps your doctor recently diagnosed you with high blood pressure.  If he/she did, they probably told you to cut down your salt intake.  However, salt may not be the culprit.

Hypertension? It may not be Salt…

Before I continue, I need to explain why high blood pressure, also known as hypertension is so dangerous.  While hypertension isn’t a problem on its own, high blood pressure can cause some pretty serious issues.  These issues include heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and even blindness.  In fact, do you know the number one cause of high blood pressure?  It’s actually type 2 diabetes.  After all, what causes type 2 diabetes?  Too much sugar in the blood.

In order to understand this, let me explain some simple chemistry.  Whenever you dissolve anything in a liquid, chemistry wants to balance the ratio of dissolved stuff to the amount of liquid.  Surprisingly, it does not matter what that “stuff” is.  It could be salt, sugar, mud, faery dust or anything else.  So, lets run a little experiment…

The Experiment

Let’s connect two jars with a tube at the bottom of each jar.  Next, we’ll place a filter on either end of the tube that only allows water through.  Afterwards, will fill both jars exactly 1/2 way up with water.  Next, we’ll place 8 grams of sugar in one jar, and 4 grams in the other.  You will see water move from the jar that has 4 grams to the jar that has 8 grams.  Why?  The system is trying to maintain the same mix of sugar to water in both jars.  In order to balance them it, it has to move water from the jar with low sugar to the jar with high sugar.  See the diagram below.

So, how does this affect the human body?  When you eat too much sugar, salt, mud or faery dust, it stays in the blood stream. Like the filters in the jars, only water can move freely into and out of your cells.  Like the jars, your body wants an equal balance of water to “stuff” both in the cell and out of the cell.  As a result, water rushes out of the cell into the blood stream.  If more fluid is needed, your kidneys will recycle more water back into your body to make up the difference.  So, what happens when you have more water in your arteries?  Well, what happens when you push more water through a hose?  Obviously, you get increased pressure.  As a result, even sugar substitutes can cause hypertension.

Heart Healthy Foods and Enzymes – The Total Heart Health Package

Most people fail to realize that heart health is about more than avoiding fast foods and processed foods.  In fact, there are actually heart healthy foods you can eat that support healthy blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and even prevent obesity.  Why is this important?  Because obesity, inflammation, and are the cardinal warning signs that heart disease may lie in your future.  So here is a list of heart friendly foods that support heart health and healthy body mass.

Oats and Barley

The first two heart healthy foods are oats and barley.  According to Pub Med, 2009, not only do these foods reduce cholesterol production in the liver, but they promote the creation of healthy short chain fatty acids.  Additionally, they show promise for supporting healthy immune system function.  For those of you who like the technical details, oats and barley contain a chemical called Beta-glucans.  Beta-glucans are polysaccharides occurring in the bran of barley and oats.  However, be sure that your oats are organic or steel cut.  Why is this important?  because otherwise the food company probably used flour to keep them from sticking together.  Flour, of course, is a simple carb that is notorious for causing inflammation, weight gain and high cholesterol.

Certain Seafoods

Other heart healthy foods include fatty fish.  These include salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, herring, lake trout, and sardines.  In fact, they also include crustaceans such as lobster, oysters and squid.  Furthermore, the high protein content in these seafood morsels provide a host of other health benefits.  These foods contain health-protective omega-3s, specifically the long-chain variety known as LC omega-3, which contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).  All of these fatty acids lower risk of heart attack, and stroke according to Pub Med, 2010.

Additionally, human clinical trials show long-chain omega-3s to be very heart and brain healthy.  These trials strongly show that healthy omega 3’s help prevent heart attacks by helping the heart maintain its rhythm. Studies also show that they also make blood less likely to clot, lower blood pressure, keep blood vessels healthy and less likely to narrow, reduce triglycerides and lower inflammation.  However, a high simple carb diet will not only stop this process, but reverse it as well.  See my previous article for more information.

Where do Enzyme fit in?

So, you’re eating a healthy diet.  You exercise properly and regularly.  How in the world can enzymes support healthy heart function?  I’m glad you asked.  In fact, they support healthy heart function two ways.  First, the right digestive enzyme supplements help your body break down, digest, and absorb the fatty acids from omega-3’s and the protein and complex carbs from barley and oats.  Afterwards, the right systemic enzyme supplements help your heart, brain and blood vessels utilize this vital nutrition.  Additionally, the right enzyme supplements support healthy low inflammation levels.  So, how do we know what enzyme supplements are right for you?  Through testing that is scientifically sound and based on fundamental medical principles.

Would you like to know more?

Are you concerned about the health of your heart?  Maybe you’re concerned about a parent, grandparent, friend or loved one.   Does it affect work, family or fun?  Would you like to find out how to support healthy heart function safely and effectively without drugs or surgery?  If so, contact us and set up a consultation or call us at 425-868-0120.  I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis, which is trusted by both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  This will help me determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Statin Drugs only add four days to your life

Statin Drugs only add four days to your life.  New research from the Journal of the American Medical Association calls the use of statin drugs into question.  These drugs, such as Lipitor, Crestor, Zocor and others, led to an increased incidence of type 2 diabetes.  Additionally, according to this research, the only added four days to one’s lifespan.

Statin Drugs only add four days to your life.  Statins are the most prescribed drug in the U.S. Sadly, they come with a host of serious side effects.  These side effects include muscle pain, headaches and nausea. Sadly, they also greatly increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In fact JAMA concluded in the study that this research  could lead to a lower number of individuals recommended for statin drugs.  This even includes people with increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Statins are a group of medicines that lower ‘bad’ cholesterol by causing the liver to make less.  Dr. Aseem Malhotra from the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘There appears to be no clear reduction in coronary heart disease mortality in western European countries from statins for primary [low-risk patients] and secondary prevention [high-risk patients].’  Dr. Malhotra was one of the study’s authors.  So why don’t statins help?  Actually, there is a simple answer.  According to research from around the globe, there is no link between cholesterol and heard disease.  If you need more evidence, look at either the Honolulu study or the Framingham Study.

Natural News actually reports that “Researchers in the NYU study said that heart attack survivors should focus on improving their health with diet and exercise instead of taking medications. They said that people over 65 who took statins were more likely to die than those who changed their diet.”

Digestion of Fats and Simple Carbs

As it turns out, your heart health depends on your ability to digest and use several key nutrients.  Of course they are fats and simple carbs.  The way your body digests, absorbs and uses them is crucial to your cardiovascular health.  Of course by age 40, your ability to process these foods declines by 70%.  This is where enzyme nutrition comes in.  While I don’t treat cardiovascular disease, I can support heart and blood vessel health.  I accomplish this by making sure your body can process carbs and fats the way it’s supposed to.  But I only determine this after objective scientific testing based on sound medical principals.

Hypertension and Vascular Health

High Blood Pressure
High Blood Pressure can be deadly

This episode of Dr. Andy’s Wellness Corner is about high blood pressure.  Additionally, Dr. Andy will go into the importance of vascular health and other risks from this common disease.  Of course, Dr. Andy starts by defining the disease.  And then your host covers its prevalence not only in the U.S. but in Washington state as well.  He also gets into what this common disease costs Americans annually as well its serious complications.  He also goes into risk groups, how it’s measured and common treatments.  Lastly he covers both the popular natural approaches to healthy vascular function and, of course, the enzyme nutrition approach.

High blood pressure is known as hypertension.  The most common way to measure it is using a cuff.  There are, however, several other ways to measure it.  Additionally, one high reading is not enough to diagnose a patient with hypertension or high blood pressure.  In this program, Dr. Andy will also reveal some startling new research showing how high blood pressure can lead to some pretty surprising complications.  There are of course some predictable complications as well.  Your host goes into both of them siting appropriate research along the way.

Then Dr. Andy goes into  common medications as well as their side effects.  He also goes common natural ways of supporting healthy vascular functions.  Lastly, of course he delves into the enzyme nutrition approach to support  properly working heart and vascular systems.

Low Cholesterol Shortens Life
Did You Know Low Cholesterol Shortens Life?

Low Cholesterol Shortens Life.  Over the past many years, there have been a number of studies proving the cholesterol myth is just that.  It is just a myth.  In fact these studies show there is no link between cholesterol and heart disease.  Among these studies are the Framingham Study as well as the Honolulu Study.  And, as I’ve previously stated, the Aboriginals have a high instance of heart disease and very low cholesterol levels while Switzerland has a low incidence of heart disease and relatively high cholesterol levels.  However, if you actually dive into the data behind the Honolulu study, you’ll find some startling figures.  Surprisingly, these statistics indicate that lower cholesterol may actually shorten your life span.

What’s most unfortunate is that the study concludes that lowering cholesterol does not affect your risk of heart disease.  While that is a great finding, one needs to look at the underlying data in the study to get to the real truth.  Surprisingly, if you look at that actual data, you find the conclusion is being somewhat politically correct.  Because the data actually shows a HIGHER MORTALITY RATE for subjects who had lower cholesterol levels.  As a matter of fact this includes those with lower LDL levels, which is the “BAD” cholesterol.  In fact several studies from medscape.com show that people who have lower LDL (“Bad Cholesterol”) levels had an increased risk of cancer.

Enzymes Boost Heart Health
Learn How Enzymes Boost Heart Health

Enzymes Boost Heart Health.  According to Nutrition Research, January 2009, specific enzymes supports healthy heart and cardiovascular  function.  In fact the study even showed that this enzyme even helps people who are at higher risk of cardio vascular disease (CVD).  In fact according to the research, this enzyme helps heart health by reducing several key clotting factors in the blood.   These factors are fibrinogen, factor VII and factor VIII.

Factor VII, formerly known as proconvertin, is one of the proteins that causes blood to clot in the coagulation cascade.  Meanwhile, factor VIII is an essential blood clotting protein.  Lastly, fibrinogen (formerly known as factor I) is a glycoprotein in vertebrates that helps in the formation of blood clots.  And while all of these chemicals are necessary; in fact we would bleed to death without them, they are problematic in abundance.

The Research and Our Approach

However, the exciting news is that the enzyme known as nattokinase shows much promise in reducing fibrinogen, Factor VII and Factor VIII.  Of course you would want to be careful not to take too much.  In fact, this why we use a scientific approach to supporting a healthy working body with enzyme nutrition.  Through scientific testing based on sound medical principals, Dr. Andy can identify the actual source(s) of stress in the body and help those organs work properly.  Therefore, this even includes both heart and cardiovascular function.
