Food Additives ADHD: According to a recent study. This astonishing research comes from two major studies from the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. These studies revealed a strong link between food additives and ADHD children. So an important question comes to mind. Which additives cause problems? The study showed that food coloring and sodium benzoate were the main culprits. ADHD is a serious condition that affects over 6.4 million American children.
While I’m sure you all know what food coloring is, sodium benzoate (SB) is a food preservative. It is added to foods to guard against bacteria and fungi. In the study children of various age groups were given controlled amounts of these food preservatives. Meanwhile, testers administered placebos to other children in the same age group. Researchers then evaluated each child’s behavior. Of course they had no idea who was taking the real ingredients vs. the placebo. In fact EVERY GROUP showed a much higher incidence of ADHD in the children taking real food coloring and SB.
The Natural Approach to a Healthy and Alert Brain
While I know it’s difficult to eliminate these harmful ingredients, you can still avoid them as much as possible. Try sticking to eating fresh meats, fruits and vegetables. Conversely avoid processed foods and sodas as much as possible. Additionally enzyme nutrition may also help. An enzyme based liver cleanse can help your body eliminate toxins. There is also strong research showing that children with healthy digestion are much less likely to suffer from attention problems including ADHD. Enzyme nutrition can help your child’s digestion work properly. This in turn may help them pay attention. Lastly, Enzyme nutrition can help your child’s brain work properly. Of course this includes helping your brain make the right chemicals. There are also several preliminary studies showing that children under regular chiropractic care have a much lower incidence of ADHD.
After many years of clinical practice, Dr. Marrone has forged a remarkable career as a practitioner, educator and lecturer.
