Depression and gut health.  Did you know that there is far more serotonin in your gut than in your brain?  The May 2017 issue of Gastroenterology contains a study showing a possible link between gut health and mood.  In fact the study found a very strong link between digestive inflammation and depression.  In a double blind placebo study, subjects who took supplements for digestive health showed sizable mood improvements over the placebo control group.

It’s important to remember that your body needs serotonin not only for mood but for digestive health as well.  Additionally, many of you will remember the multitude of articles I’ve released showing the gut-brain connection.  In fact experts now refer to the gut as the second brain, since it actually contains more nerves than the spinal cord.  Furthermore, the gut also has outbound nerves.  This means it may have the ability to command other organs and tissues. Clearly there is a strong connection between gut health and brain function.

Our Approach

Your brain and digestive function are a direct result of your digestive health. And while I don’t diagnose or treat any disease (including depression), I can help support healthy digestion.  And of course this can support healthy mood. This, in turn, promotes healthy brain function. I provide this support with a specific plan. And this plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.

Are you concerned about digestive health or mood? Do you spend hours or days at home waiting for your problems to subside? Are you missing out on work family or fun? If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Saffron boosts mood. Depression is now an epidemic.  Did you know that it’s on the rise in this country at an alarming rate?  In fact about 1 in 10 Americans suffer from depression, according to US Reports.  What’s more is that experts believe depression will be the number 2 cause of disability worldwide by 2020.  While many turn to prescription drugs for help, these meds come with some very serious side effects.  In fact, if you follow my articles, you know that some of these drugs increase your risk of suicide.  Sadly, in many cases they also fail to help. Did you know that about 90% of patients suffer from at least one serious side effect from these medications?

As a result, natural healthcare providers and their patients want a safer way to support healthy mood. That’s were saffron may help.  In fact other countries use Saffron for depression.  Fortunately, research suggests saffron is just as effective as most antidepressant pills.  These include Prozac and Imipramine.  However, saffron doesn’t have the adverse side effects.  Did you know that traditional Persian medical practitioners use saffron for depression?  Iranian researchers state that saffron may work in the same way as many antidepressants. In fact, two compounds in saffron help stabilize several brain chemicals that boost mood.

Enzymes and Healthy Mood

Another key factor in mental health is protein metabolism.  People who suffer from anxiety or depression often can’t digest, absorbing use protein properly.  In fact your body needs protein to make the chemicals that regulate mood.  Of course that’s where enzyme nutrition comes in.  Enzymes help vital nutrients get past a stressed body.  And while I don’t treat disease (including anxiety or depression) I can support both healthy mood and healthy brain chemistry.  Of course our testing is scientific and based on sound medical principles.  The solution typically involves dietary changes along with specific enzymes based on your test results.
