The Root Cause of Disease

The Root Cause of Disease.  I’ll never forget the day I was hosting a workshop on heart health.  As you can imagine, this covers a host of topics.  During the workshop, I made it clear that I don’t treat any heart conditions.  On the other hand, my job is to support healthy heart function by finding the source of stress that caused the problem to begin with.  In fact, I use this approach when helping all of my patients.  As soon as I said that, a hand raised with the question, “what enzymes do you take for high blood pressure.”  Sadly, it seems my statement fell on deaf ears.

The Root Cause of Disease.  Too often, health care providers treat the condition, or the symptom.  Sadly, this even includes natural health care providers.  As a result, too many people are taking “this for that”.  While that sounds reasonable, which is preferable, treating the symptom or the cause?

Before I continue, I need to clarify that I do not treat any diseases or condition.  And actually, I consider this an advantage.  In fact, let’s use high blood pressure as an example.  The common medical solution is water pills and blood thinners.  However, these medications merely manage the condition.

Continuing with our example, can you think of several things that could lead to high blood pressure?  Let’s brain-storm together.  For starters, there’s diet.  Eating too much salt, sugar and even other spices lead to high blood pressure.  But what about emotional stress?  Worrying about that deal, or that promotion, or not getting laid off during a “reorg” can all lead to high blood pressure.  In fact, here’s an odd one, what about physical stress.  How can physical stress cause high blood pressure?  Physical stress causes pain and/or inflammation.  Sadly, either can lead to high blood pressure.

Did You Catch My Hint?

I hinted at something here.  Did you pick up on it?  All three causes are forms of stress. In fact, stress is the root cause of every disease.  In fact, as I stated earlier, stress has three forms.  These forms are emotional, nutritional and physical.  Addressing the stress, and helping the stressed part of your body work properly can help you avoid many chronic diseases.  This includes high blood pressure.  After all, stress is the root cause of disease.

Finding the Source of Stress

Regardless of the source of stress, Redmond Ridge Nutrition and Chiropractic can help identify the sources of stress in your body.  We accomplish this through testing methods that are scientific in nature, and based on sound medical principles.  Then we carefully select the right combination treatments.  These treatments may include enzyme nutrition, rehabilitative exercises, massage therapy and/or traditional or low force chiropractic care.  In fact, we may even help you with emotional stress with affirmations or a referral to a qualified provider.

Once again, I need to clarify that none of these treatments diagnose or treat disease.  Instead, we are dedicated to finding the source(s) of stress with pinpoint accuracy and helping those parts work properly with the right support.

Chiropractic Reduces Inflammation

Chiropractic Reduces Inflammation, and perhaps chronic disease.  In a recent study, subjects under chiropractic care showed decreased inflammation. Inflammation is the root cause of many diseases.  In fact, these diseases include high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, stroke, obesity, diabetes and many more.

Chiropractic reduces inflammation, and perhaps chronic disease.  In the study researchers looked at blood markers that show inflammation.  Those markers include IL-6 and CRP.  In fact, doctors looked IL-6 and CRP levels as these patients went through a course of chiropractic care.  Surprisingly, in all patients receiving adjustments, these markers decreased over the course of treatment.  Sadly, those who did not receive adjustments showed no improvement.

I think I can guess your next question.  What’s the big deal about inflammation?  So, I have some chronic swelling, I think I can live with that.  However, you may not realize that chronic inflammation or swelling is the root cause of many of our top diseases.  In fact, these includes some of our nation’s top killers.

Sadly, these diseases include osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and even cancer.  Even worse, these diseases are actually increasing in America.  That’s right, with all of our medical technology, our nation’s top killers are on the rise.  Since chiropractic reduces inflammation, it may help keep these deadly diseases away.

A Comprehensive Approach

At Redmond Ridge Chiropractic, we take a comprehensive approach to your spinal health.  As the research suggests, this can reduce inflammation and keep you happier and healthier for years to come.  In fact, I often say that chiropractic adds years to life and life to years.

Well, here’s some proof.  We use a combination of traditional or low force care coupled with a customized home exercise program, massage therapy traction, and enzyme nutrition.  You see, chiropractic heals the bones, joints and nerves.  Additionally, exercises and massage help heal the muscles.  Furthermore, traction helps heal the ligaments.  And lastly, enzyme nutrition helps your bones, nerves, joints, ligaments and muscles receive the vital nutrition they need to stay healthy.

Do you suffer from chronic inflammation?  Is a family member?  Are you concerned about the long-term effects?  If so, don’t wait.  In fact, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  Together, we can determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, I’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Obesity is Increasing World-Wide, NEJM

Obesity is increasing worldwide.  According to CNN Health, obesity has doubled since 1980 in 73 countries.  As the SAD (Standard American Diet) spreads throughout the world, this comes as no surprise.

While obesity is gaining traction world-wide, can you guess who the leader is?  That’s right, it’s the United States.  In fact, the U.S. has been leading the way to obesity for decades.  As more and more countries adapt the American lifestyle, including poor diet, over 1/3 of the entire planet is overweight.

The new study attributes the cause of this growing epidemic to urbanization, poor diets and reduced physical activity.  In other words, the “modern lifestyle” is to blame.  And just why is that so important?  Obesity is the number one cause of our nation’s leading killers.  As obesity spreads, so will the deadly chronic diseases it causes. Of course the number one disease is cardiovascular disease.

The study comes from the New England Journal of Medicine.

While obesity levels have risen in all countries, income level does not seem to play a role.  This means the issue does not simply boil down to wealth.
“Changes in the food environment and food systems are probably major drivers,” they write. “Increased availability, accessibility, and affordability of energy dense foods, along with intense marketing of such foods, could explain excess energy intake and weight gain among different populations.”

If you need Help

While I don’t treat diseases (including obesity – assuming it gets classified as such), I can help support healthy body mass and composition.  I accomplish this through a customized exercise program, dietary coaching, and the right enzyme supplements. Remember that healthy body mass is not just something you attain to look better, it helps you live a longer higher quality life.  It also drastically lowers the risk of many deadly diseases.  We can even look at your body composition with our BIA analyzer.  This can tell us your muscle mass, fat mass, bone mineral content and much much more.  Learn more here.

Are you concerned about your body mass?  Does it affect your job, family or fun? Are you worried about the long term affects?  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Chronic Diseases a Crisis in the U.S.

Chronic Diseases – a Crisis in the U.S. – Chronic diseases are steadily increasing in the U.S.  Sadly, experts predict that about 50% of all Americans will suffer at least one chronic disease by 2030.  Yes, you read that right about one half of all Americans will suffer at least one chronic disease by 2030.

Chronic Diseases – a Crisis in the U.S. – So what exactly is a chronic disease?  Chronic diseases are a set of long term illnesses such as heart disease, asthma, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and many more.  While some state they are incurable, the CDC reports that many of these are reversible and avoidable.  But before I get into that, let me provide you with some more powerful statistics.  First of all, did you know that chronic disease is the number one cause of death in the United States?  Currently, about 133 million Americans suffer from at least one chronic disease (Rand Corp).  Secondly, chronic diseases are responsible for seven out of every 10 deaths in the U.S.  In fact, chronic disease kills more than 1.7 million Americans every year (CDC).

In addition to shortening your life, chronic diseases can be disabling and reduce your quality of life.  The risk is even greater if the disease goes undiagnosed or untreated.  In fact, did you know that every 30 doctors amputate a lower limb as a consequence of diabetes?  In addition to physical suffering, chronic diseases also play a serious economic toll on the United States. in fact, chronic diseases account for 81% of hospital admissions; 91% of all prescriptions filled; and 76% of all physician visits in the U.S (RWJF).  According to Kaiser, health care premiums for employer-sponsored family coverage have increased by more than 87% since 2000.

 Prevention is Best

While the best solution is prevention, if you catch most of these problems early enough you can reverse them.  Fortunately, the solution is the same for either.  It’s eat well, move well and think well.  After all the number one cause of chronic disease is stress.  And there are three forms of stress.  They include mechanical stress, nutritional stress and emotional stress.  Sadly, your body doesn’t know the difference between them.  As a result your body responds to each of them the same way.

Worried?  Let us Help

While I don’t diagnose or treat any disease (including chronic diseases), I can help your body work the way it’s supposed to work in a healthy way.  I provide this support with a specific plan. And this plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements, home exercises, chiropractic treatment, and positive thinking. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.

Are you concerned about digestive health? Do you spend hours or days at home waiting for your problems to subside? Are you missing out on work family or fun? In fact, did you know that in the United States, chronic disease and conditions account for most of our nation’s health care costs?   “Over eighty-six percent of all health care spending in 2010 was for people with one or more chronic medical conditions. (CDC)”   The total costs of heart disease and stroke in 2010 were well over $315 billion. Of this amount, more than $193 billion was for direct medical costs.  That is it did not include costs for home care and rehab.  Additionally, cancer alone care cost $157 billion in 2010 dollars.

Meanwhile, diabetes cost this nation $245 billion in 2012.  This includes $176 billion in direct medical costs and $69 billion in work absence.   Sadly, the total cost of arthritis and related conditions was about $128 billion in 2003. Of this amount, nearly $81 billion was for direct medical costs and $47 billion was for indirect costs associated with lost work. Last but not least is obesity.  Obesity cost the U.S. about $147 billion in 2008. Annual medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher per person than those for people of normal weight in 2006.
