Chiropractic Helps Asthma and COPD

Chiropractic Helps Asthma and COPD.  The World Health Organization reports that some of the most common chronic lung problems include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary hypertension.  The last one is basically high blood pressure in the arteries connecting the heart and lungs.

Chiropractic Helps Asthma and COPD.  While these diseases have no real cure, the typical solution involves medication.  In the case of asthma, you also have to avoid “triggers.”  Triggers are basically things in the environment that can cause an asthma attack.  Common triggers include pet dander, dust and pollen.  However, depending on the person, it could be just about anything.  While chiropractic care is no substitute for medicine, research shows it, too can help.

In fact, research from the Journal of Physical Therapy Science confirms that spinal adjustments can help with breathing problems.  Furthermore, this is very recent research published in September of 2016.  In fact, none of the patients in the study sought spinal care for lung problems.  Instead, they sought treatment for neck or low back pain.  Additionally, none of the subjects in the study were taking any medications.

The study concluded that “chiropractic care likely plays a more important role in healthy lung function than most people realize. This information may be helpful to patients who are already experiencing asthma or COPD issues and looking for relief, but it may also work to reduce the likelihood of lung-related diseases in the first place.”

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic, we take a complete approach to your lung health.  First, we can use either traditional or low-force spinal corrections to support healthy breathing.  On top of that, we can use enzyme nutrition in combination with the right dietary changes to support healthy airways.

Medications Linked to Allergies and Asthma.  With allergies and asthma on the rise since the 1980’s, one has to wonder what has changed.  However, remember that it takes genes thousands of years to change.  On top of that, our genetic makeup hasn’t change since we started walking on this planet.  In that case, what is the source if the increase in allergies and asthma?  According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), certain medications may be at fault.

Sadly, all allergic reactions, including asthma, are the result of mistaken identity.  In fact, when you expose yourself to things like pollen, dust, pet dander or other allergens, your immune system attacks them.  Unfortunately, your immune system thinks they’re a foreign invader.  In fact, asthma is simply when your immune system attacks these things in the lungs or airways.  So, why in the world would your immune system start attacking something you’ve been exposed to all your life?  Otherwise, you would not suffer from allergies.

The Study

Recently, a new study was published in JAMA Pediatrics. In fact, the study suggests that certain medications are partly to blame.  In fact, the study blamed certain acid-suppressive medications and antibiotics during infancy for these allergic diseases.  Sadly, these diseases include asthma and general allergies.  The common ones are Prilosec, Nexium, ranitidine, lansoprazole and omeprazole.  Sadly, these are the most commonly used medications in America, according to a study by IRI.

According to Dr. Edward Mitre, about 8% of all children received a prescription for acid control.  Dr. Mitre was the lead author of the study.  Dr. Mitre is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.
In fact, often your immune system is over active because of toxins.  As toxins build up in your body, your immune system goes on high alert.  Why?  Because your body knows toxins shouldn’t be there.  Afterwards, your immune system aggressively attacks anything foreign.  Sadly, while medication has its place, drugs contain many harmful toxins.  In fact, this could be why these drugs cause allergies.  However, I need to clarify that medications has its place.  Under the right circumstances, it saves lives.
At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a complete approach to asthma.  First, our gentle and precise pediatric chiropractic techniques may help reduce asthma attacks.  After that, the right enzyme supplements can support healthy lung and immune function.  Of course, we only make recommendations after testing.  In fact, our testing is based on sound medical principals.  In addition, Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma

Chiropractic Care and Asthma. According to the American Lung Association, asthma is a lung disease that makes it harder to move air in and out of your lungs. While an inhaler is essential for emergency situations, research shows that chiropractic care can help.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma.  According to the American Lung Association, Asthma is a lung disease that makes it harder to move air in and out of your lungs.  In fact, asthma is chronic. In other words, you live with it every day.  Sadly, asthma can be serious, and even life threatening.  Unfortunately, there is no cure for asthma, but it can be managed so you live a normal, healthy life.

With asthma, the airways in your lungs are often inflamed. This swelling makes your lungs more sensitive to “triggers.”  A trigger could be a cold or the weather, or even things such as dust, chemicals, smoke and pet dander.  When you breathe in a trigger, your airways swell even more. This narrows the space for the air to move in and out of the lungs. The muscles that wrap around your airways also can tighten, making breathing even harder. When that happens, it’s called an asthma “attack.”  In fact, this asthma attack is an allergic reaction to a trigger.  So, if you suffer from asthma, your immune system is overactive.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma – Research

According to the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA), there are 22 research publications regarding chiropractic and children with asthma.  In fact, the research shows strong evidence that chiropractic helps children who suffer from asthma.  However, I want to be clear that chiropractic care is not a substitution for an emergency inhaler.  However, there are cases where chiropractic care eliminated the need for an inhaler.

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a multistep approach to asthma.  First our precise pediatric chiropractic techniques may help reduce asthma attacks.  Together with the right enzyme supplements to support healthy lung and immune function.  Of course, we only recommend treatment and supplements after testing that is based on sound medical principals.  Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric chiropractic professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.

Enzymes help Asthma, Research Shows

Enzymes help Asthma, Research Shows – Do you suffer from asthma?  Does it stifle your active lifestyle?  Sadly, up until now you could only manage the symptoms.  And while that’s super important, new research supports the use of enzymes to help with asthma.

Enzymes help Asthma.  According to the CDC, asthma affected over 26 and a half million Americans in 2010.  According to the Asthma foundation it has been on the rise since the 1970’s.    That’s about 17% of Americans, or one in 5 or 6.  That’s also about a 25% increase since 2001.  It is projected to increase by over 30% by 2030.

Sadly, modern medicine can only manage the symptoms, or respond to an attack.  Now I’m not understating the importance of that.  An asthma attack can be lethal, so when it flares up, intervention can save your life.  As always, I am very grateful for modern medicine’s ability to handle crisis care.  However, that seems to be all they can do.

Asthma is An Allergic Attack

Asthma is basically your body’s immune system overreacting to an allergen.  When this happens, certain immune cells go into overdrive.  This leads to inflammation, and constriction of the airways in the lungs making breathing very difficult.  It can also worsen with exertion.  In fact 3 out of 5 asthma sufferers are forced to limit their physical activity because it could risk a serious flare up.  Additionally, nearly 1 in 2 children miss at least a day of school each year because of their asthma. And nearly 1 in 3 adults miss at least 1 day of work each year because of their asthma. Asthma also interferes with your daily activities:  as I said earlier, nearly 3 in 5 people with asthma limit their usual activities because of their condition.

How Enzymes Help Asthma

However, researchers at Johns Hopkins showed subjects missing a specific enzyme had T cells that were out of control.  These specific T cells are part of your immune system.  When they’re out of control they can cause an asthma attack.  This enzyme, SGK1, keeps those T cells under control.  As a side note, subjects in the study also developed fewer tumors.  This shows that the same enzyme may be helpful in the treatment of certain types of cancer.  Of course what the medical community wants to do is mimic this behavior with a drug, rather than supply the enzyme to a patient who is deficient.  However, it’s nice to see the medical community validating my work.

Our Approach to Respiratory Health

It’s important to remember that I don’t treat any disease.  This, of course, includes asthma.  However, we can support healthy function of your liver, immune system, skin and kidneys.  We can also support healthy digestion.  Now I know what you’re thinking, what do these have to do with asthma?  When your immune system overreacts, it’s because there’s something in your body that shouldn’t be there.

The Body’s Filters

Just what keeps them out?  Your body has three main “filters”, which are your liver, kidneys and skin.  It’s also important to look at digestive health because there are only two ways into the liver.  They are through digestion or from the blood stream.  There are also numerous studies showing chiropractic care helpful in support for healthy breathing.   Once specific testing identifies the source of stress, we use a combination of specific chiropractic care, dietary changes, and the right enzyme supplements to help your body work properly.  Of course a properly working body doesn’t suffer from health problems like asthma (but again, I don’t treat asthma).

Are you concerned about respiratory health or immune health?  Does it affect your work, family life or active lifestyle?  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation.
