Medications Linked to Allergies and Asthma.  With allergies and asthma on the rise since the 1980’s, one has to wonder what has changed.  However, remember that it takes genes thousands of years to change.  On top of that, our genetic makeup hasn’t change since we started walking on this planet.  In that case, what is the source if the increase in allergies and asthma?  According to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), certain medications may be at fault.

Sadly, all allergic reactions, including asthma, are the result of mistaken identity.  In fact, when you expose yourself to things like pollen, dust, pet dander or other allergens, your immune system attacks them.  Unfortunately, your immune system thinks they’re a foreign invader.  In fact, asthma is simply when your immune system attacks these things in the lungs or airways.  So, why in the world would your immune system start attacking something you’ve been exposed to all your life?  Otherwise, you would not suffer from allergies.

The Study

Recently, a new study was published in JAMA Pediatrics. In fact, the study suggests that certain medications are partly to blame.  In fact, the study blamed certain acid-suppressive medications and antibiotics during infancy for these allergic diseases.  Sadly, these diseases include asthma and general allergies.  The common ones are Prilosec, Nexium, ranitidine, lansoprazole and omeprazole.  Sadly, these are the most commonly used medications in America, according to a study by IRI.

According to Dr. Edward Mitre, about 8% of all children received a prescription for acid control.  Dr. Mitre was the lead author of the study.  Dr. Mitre is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland.
In fact, often your immune system is over active because of toxins.  As toxins build up in your body, your immune system goes on high alert.  Why?  Because your body knows toxins shouldn’t be there.  Afterwards, your immune system aggressively attacks anything foreign.  Sadly, while medication has its place, drugs contain many harmful toxins.  In fact, this could be why these drugs cause allergies.  However, I need to clarify that medications has its place.  Under the right circumstances, it saves lives.
At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a complete approach to asthma.  First, our gentle and precise pediatric chiropractic techniques may help reduce asthma attacks.  After that, the right enzyme supplements can support healthy lung and immune function.  Of course, we only make recommendations after testing.  In fact, our testing is based on sound medical principals.  In addition, Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma

Chiropractic Care and Asthma. According to the American Lung Association, asthma is a lung disease that makes it harder to move air in and out of your lungs. While an inhaler is essential for emergency situations, research shows that chiropractic care can help.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma.  According to the American Lung Association, Asthma is a lung disease that makes it harder to move air in and out of your lungs.  In fact, asthma is chronic. In other words, you live with it every day.  Sadly, asthma can be serious, and even life threatening.  Unfortunately, there is no cure for asthma, but it can be managed so you live a normal, healthy life.

With asthma, the airways in your lungs are often inflamed. This swelling makes your lungs more sensitive to “triggers.”  A trigger could be a cold or the weather, or even things such as dust, chemicals, smoke and pet dander.  When you breathe in a trigger, your airways swell even more. This narrows the space for the air to move in and out of the lungs. The muscles that wrap around your airways also can tighten, making breathing even harder. When that happens, it’s called an asthma “attack.”  In fact, this asthma attack is an allergic reaction to a trigger.  So, if you suffer from asthma, your immune system is overactive.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma – Research

According to the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA), there are 22 research publications regarding chiropractic and children with asthma.  In fact, the research shows strong evidence that chiropractic helps children who suffer from asthma.  However, I want to be clear that chiropractic care is not a substitution for an emergency inhaler.  However, there are cases where chiropractic care eliminated the need for an inhaler.

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we take a multistep approach to asthma.  First our precise pediatric chiropractic techniques may help reduce asthma attacks.  Together with the right enzyme supplements to support healthy lung and immune function.  Of course, we only recommend treatment and supplements after testing that is based on sound medical principals.  Dr. Marrone is highly skilled in pediatric chiropractic.  As a matter of fact, Dr. Marrone’s pediatric chiropractic professor was the president of the ICPA at the time.

Allergy Medications Hurt your Brain

Allergy Medications – It’s allergy season. Sadly, many Americans suffer a wide range of symptoms.  These range from itchy eyes, discharge from the eyes and nose, sinus congestion and many more.  While most Americans turn to medications to manage their symptoms, new research shows this  may not be the best idea.

Allergy Medications: Perhaps you’re like millions of others who suffer from seasonal allergies.  In fact maybe you turn to one of the popular over the counter medications.  Have you ever heard of Benadryl, Paxil or Dramamine?  New research links these drugs to dementia and even brain damage.

A 2013 study by scientists at the Indiana University Center for Aging Research found that many allergy medications cause cognitive problems when taken continuously for as few as 60 days. Drugs with a weaker effect could cause brain problems within 90 days.  This research was so remarkable that it even made it into CNN headlines.

These allergy medications fall under a category of drugs called anticholinergic drugs.  The cognitive tests revealed that people taking these types of drug performed worse on short-term memory tests and tests of executive function, including verbal reasoning, planning and problem-solving.

In fact, one of the researchers by the name of Risacher stated, ““These findings might give us clues to the biological basis for the cognitive problems associated with anticholinergic drugs, but additional studies are needed if we are to truly understand the mechanisms involved.  “Given all the research evidence, physicians might want to consider alternatives to anticholinergic medications, if available, when working with their older patients.”

How Allergies Start

So where does it all start?  Often times, it all starts in the liver.  In fact, your liver acts like a filter straining out toxins from the blood.  This of course keeps your blood clean and healthy.  But what happens if the liver gets overloaded and can’t keep up with demand?  Sadly, due to the Standard American Diet, that’s too true way too often.  Now these harmful toxins back up into the blood stream.  Unfortunately your body knows they’re not supposed to be there.  So what does it do?  It uses the immune system to attack them.  And this is what causes your allergy symptoms.  The common medical approach is to block the immune system cells responsible for that attack.  Can you see why this only patches the symptoms?

Healthy Liver & Immune Function

It’s important to remember that neither I nor enzyme nutrition treat allergies, or any disease.  Fortunately, there is a solution to helping both your liver and immune system work properly.  In fact that’s exactly what enzyme nutrition does.  Through scientific testing based on sound medical principles, our testing will identify the source of stress in the body.  Then with a precise combination of gradual dietary changes and enzyme supplements we can support the healthy function of that organ.  In this case that may end up being the liver, and/or the immune system.

Are you concerned about your liver or immune health?  Does your condition affect your work, play or family?  Would you like a more active lifestyle?  Or perhaps you’re worried about a loved one.  If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Adult Onset Allergies
Learn how Adult Onset Allergies may spell liver trouble

Adult Onset Allergies. There has been a steep rise in cases of asthma and allergies in the U.S. over the past few decades. Why?  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 12 people in the U.S. have allergies, or about 25 million people. And the rate appears to be on the rise. From 2001 to 2011, the CDC says the number of Americans with allergies grew by 28 percent. (HealthLine Web Site).  Unfortunately many health care professionals look to suppress your immune system to treat your allergy symptoms.  In this article, I’ll go into why this treatment only targets the symptoms, rather than the cause of the problem.

While your allergies are the result of an overactive immune system, often times the cause lies much further “upstream”.  Also, it’s important to point out that if you were born with certain allergies, that’s a completely different story.  This article deals with allergies acquired later in life; i.e. adult onset allergies (or adolescent).
