Opioid Addiction: More Opioids, More Money for Doctors:

Did you know that opioid addiction kills more than 10,000 Americans every year?  In fact, the problem is so bad that our government calls it a national epidemic.  As a result, one would hope that doctors would make a huge push to reduce their use.  However, what CNN analysts discovered in partnership with Harvard researchers is quite shocking.

According to CNN:

“In 2014 and 2015, opioid manufacturers paid hundreds of doctors across the country six-figure sums for speaking, consulting and other services. Thousands of other doctors were paid over $25,000 during that time.”

As it turns out, the more opioids a doctor prescribed, the more they were paid for speaking.  “This is the first time we’ve seen this, and it’s really important,” said Dr. Andrew Kolodny, a senior scientist at the Institute for Behavioral Health at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, where he is co-director of the Opioid Policy Research Collaborative.

The Underlying Problem with Opioids

Unfortunately, few realize that the FDA cleared opioid medications for short-term use only.  At the time, no one really understood the ramifications of long-term opioid use.  These medications raise your pain threshold.  In fact, this is how they ease your pain.  However, your body knows the threshold is raised in pushes it back down over time.  Now you’re in pain again, so you go to your doctor, who ups the dosage.  Again, your body adapts.  Now you can see the vicious cycle.  Eventually, you go back to your doctor who says you’re addicted and cuts you off.  Now your body pushes your pain threshold way down.  As a result, you feel excruciating pain.  In fact, we have a term for this; withdrawal.

Our Approach

Rather than try and apply a catch all term to your condition, we strive to identify the actual source of stress in the body.  In fact, we do not diagnose or treat any disease.  Did you know that the source of your pain is always some type of stress?  It’s crucial to understand that stress can be physical, nutritional or emotional.  If the source of your stress is emotional, we will combine the right enzyme nutrition with a referral to a specialist.  If your problem is mechanical in nature, we will use a careful combination of specific chiropractic care, home exercises and enzyme nutrition.  If your problem is nutritional in nature, then enzyme nutrition can help your body digest, absorb and use vital nutrients properly.    Of course, I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.
