Flu vaccine alternatives. So, how in the world can the flu vaccine only help 32% of the time? By the way, this information comes straight from the CDC’s Web Site. As it turns out, vaccine’s ability to prevent the flu gets weaker and weaker each year. Additionally, the safety of this and other vaccines is highly questionable. However, there are things you can do to support healthy immune function. If your immune system is healthy, you may not get the flu.
Quercetin is a naturally occurring plant pigment, or color. In fact, you can find it in green tea, onions, apples, berries, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort, American elder, and others. Buckwheat tea also has a large amount of quercetin. You may know buckwheat tea by its Japanese name, “mugicha”.
How Quercetin Works
So, how exactly does this plant pigment help? If quercetin can penetrate a flu-infected cell, it can stop several key processes that stop the flu from duplicating. First, it can stop the virus from copying its own genes. However, even if the flu virus successfully copies its genes, quercetin can help prevent those genes from replacing the cells own genes. Since this is how the virus multiplies, quercetin essentially keeps the virus from spreading.
How Enzymes Help
If quercetin does such a great job, how in the world do enzymes help? When the flu takes over your cells, the first thing it does is “fortify”. In fact, the flu virus accomplishes these two ways. First, the flu virus closes off the cell wall. The cell wall is normally selectively open to allow food to enter and waste to leave. After the flu virus closes off the cell, it builds a protein shield around the cell wall. Why would the virus do this? To prevent your immune system, and quercetin from getting in. The virus basically fortifies its castle walls.
The right enzymes, however, can help your body destroy this protein wall. Yet other enzymes can help re-open the cell wall. Once the cell wall is open, your immune system can penetrate the cell and do its job. Of course, quercetin can help. In a nut shell, enzymes help your immune system properly penetrate infected cells. This helps your body combat the flu. On top of that, study after study shows that people under regular chiropractic care get sick less often and stay sick for a shorter time period.
