Enzymes help Asthma, Research Shows – Do you suffer from asthma? Does it stifle your active lifestyle? Sadly, up until now you could only manage the symptoms. And while that’s super important, new research supports the use of enzymes to help with asthma.

Enzymes help Asthma. According to the CDC, asthma affected over 26 and a half million Americans in 2010. According to the Asthma foundation it has been on the rise since the 1970’s. That’s about 17% of Americans, or one in 5 or 6. That’s also about a 25% increase since 2001. It is projected to increase by over 30% by 2030.
Sadly, modern medicine can only manage the symptoms, or respond to an attack. Now I’m not understating the importance of that. An asthma attack can be lethal, so when it flares up, intervention can save your life. As always, I am very grateful for modern medicine’s ability to handle crisis care. However, that seems to be all they can do.
Asthma is An Allergic Attack
Asthma is basically your body’s immune system overreacting to an allergen. When this happens, certain immune cells go into overdrive. This leads to inflammation, and constriction of the airways in the lungs making breathing very difficult. It can also worsen with exertion. In fact 3 out of 5 asthma sufferers are forced to limit their physical activity because it could risk a serious flare up. Additionally, nearly 1 in 2 children miss at least a day of school each year because of their asthma. And nearly 1 in 3 adults miss at least 1 day of work each year because of their asthma. Asthma also interferes with your daily activities: as I said earlier, nearly 3 in 5 people with asthma limit their usual activities because of their condition.
How Enzymes Help Asthma
However, researchers at Johns Hopkins showed subjects missing a specific enzyme had T cells that were out of control. These specific T cells are part of your immune system. When they’re out of control they can cause an asthma attack. This enzyme, SGK1, keeps those T cells under control. As a side note, subjects in the study also developed fewer tumors. This shows that the same enzyme may be helpful in the treatment of certain types of cancer. Of course what the medical community wants to do is mimic this behavior with a drug, rather than supply the enzyme to a patient who is deficient. However, it’s nice to see the medical community validating my work.
Our Approach to Respiratory Health
It’s important to remember that I don’t treat any disease. This, of course, includes asthma. However, we can support healthy function of your liver, immune system, skin and kidneys. We can also support healthy digestion. Now I know what you’re thinking, what do these have to do with asthma? When your immune system overreacts, it’s because there’s something in your body that shouldn’t be there.
The Body’s Filters
Just what keeps them out? Your body has three main “filters”, which are your liver, kidneys and skin. It’s also important to look at digestive health because there are only two ways into the liver. They are through digestion or from the blood stream. There are also numerous studies showing chiropractic care helpful in support for healthy breathing. Once specific testing identifies the source of stress, we use a combination of specific chiropractic care, dietary changes, and the right enzyme supplements to help your body work properly. Of course a properly working body doesn’t suffer from health problems like asthma (but again, I don’t treat asthma).
Are you concerned about respiratory health or immune health? Does it affect your work, family life or active lifestyle? If so, you can contact us one of several ways to set up a consultation. You can reach us on the web, stop by our office in Redmond, WA, or call us at 425-868-0120. Then I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
