Bulged Disc: Do you suffer from low back pain? Does it travel down either leg? Is there any numbness or loss of sensation in the legs or feet? Do you feel any weakness in the legs or feet when you move a certain way? Without a thorough exam it’s hard to be sure, but you may be suffering from a bulged disc or herniated disc. If not properly treated it may require expensive and invasive surgery.
When dealing with a bulged disc or herniated disc, there are many things to consider. First you need to evaluate the severity of the bulge. There are some cases that are surgical candidates no matter what. And while the surgery is invasive and risky, it does have its place. Chiropractic and physical therapy are more conservative alternatives. In fact they actually work very well together in most cases.
Disc Problems – A Combined Approach is Best
However, most people tend to forget that like other parts of your body, a disc needs proper nutrition in order to heal itself properly. That’s why I take a combined approach when dealing with disc patients. The first thing I do is an extensive evaluation. This evaluation includes a physical exam, neurological testing, muscular and skeletal testing, orthopedic tests, and a nutritional evaluation. I will also review any MRI’s, or order any imaging if necessary.
Nutrition and Disc Health
Next I will perform a careful analysis. This is because I need to determine if you’re a surgical candidate, or if I can help you. If you are a good candidate, your treatment will consist of the following. It will include the right type of traction, specific chiropractic treatments, home exercises and enzyme nutrition. If you’re not, we have an extensive network of health care professionals we can refer you to.
It is crucial to remember that a disc needs several key nutrients. They are Vitamin C, calcium, and amino acids from proteins. But lets not forget that enzymes are required at several steps along the way. First of all, enzymes help your body digest and absorb these vital nutrients. And second, enzymes also help your body use them properly. In this case, it supports healthy disc repair. Our plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.
