Sitting undoes Exercise. This data comes from the Annals of Internal Medicine, Jan 20 2015. This study mined through piles of research data from a multitude of sources. These sources include MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Web of Knowledge, and Google Scholar. They were looking at the association between time spent sitting vs. overall health. To accomplish this, experts looked at hospitalizations, all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer in adults independent of physical activity.
The study concluded that sitting for long periods decreased life span and chronic disease rates no matter how active the subject. In other words, it doesn’t matter how much you exercise, sitting for a long time will shorten your life. In fact it will also increase your risk of heart disease, cancer, type two diabetes and other chronic diseases. And just to be clear, these risks increase no matter how much you exercise.
Some Practical Advice
So what can you do to counter this? For starters, get a standing work station. If you have to collaborate with coworkers, get up and go to their office or cubicle, rather than calling, emailing or chatting. When I was in corporate America, I used a small water bottle. That way I’d have to keep getting up to refill it. Take a walk over lunch. When you drive somewhere, park far away from your destination. That way you have to walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Of course the right nutrition, exercise, and chiropractic care can help. The proper diet and enzyme supplements will provide your vital organs with the vital nutrients it needs to work properly.
