PMS – Are you like millions of other women who suffer from ailments related to your monthly cycle?  Do these problems become so severe they interfere with your work, play and family life?  It’s important to remember that you’re not alone.  In fact premenstrual syndrome affects millions of women worldwide.  In fact imbalances in women’s health can cause a wide range of symptoms including PMS.  These include crying spells, headaches, bloating, bowel problems, back pain, mood swings, irritability, depression or feeling down, and even severe cramping.  And that’s just naming a few.

Unfortunately, modern medicine really doesn’t have an answer to PMS.  Well, actually they do, it’s to cover up the symptoms with medication.  Beyond that they have no answers.  But what if I told you the key to supporting a healthy cycle?

So here it is, I’m going to tell you the key to a healthy cycle.  Of course when your cycle is healthy, you will not suffer the common symptoms of PreMenstrual Syndrome, or PMS.   Well, the key is calcium.  A healthy cycle actually requires calcium.  But wait, I know what you’re thinking.  I’m headed right over to the supplement store to pick up some calcium.  It’s good for bone health too.  Before you head out, understand that women who supplement with calcium are five times more likely to suffer from dementia or stroke.  You also increase your risk of cancer.  In fact the best way to get calcium is from your diet.

But you want to be more proactive about supporting a healthy cycle, to reduce the odds of PMS.  What do you implement?  Well, the answer is actually protein.  Why?  Because calcium is carried by protein.  So another important way to support a healthy cycle is to increase your protein intake.  However, be careful with soy.  Soy has chemicals in it that bind with estrogen receptors.  This can worsen your symptoms.  But what if your body has trouble digesting, absorbing or using protein?

While we don’t treat diseases (including PMS), we do support healthy menstrual function.  This of course includes supporting a healthy cycle.  If the cycle is healthy, and has all of the vital nutrients it needs, it is much less likely to cause problems.  We accomplish this with a comprehensive approach.  First, chiropractic care can help maintain healthy nerve flow to the organs.  This helps those organs work properly.  Next, with the right combination of diet and enzyme supplements we can support healthy protein and calcium digestion, absorption and use.  Typically we will focus on protein, however each case is different.  For that reason we only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.
