… Are you kidding me?  I don’t have time for 7 hours of deep bed rest sleep every night!  At least, that’s what you’re thinking, right?  But let me ask you this.  Please read this article.  Learn about all the health problems that come from lack of this crucial activity.  Then ask yourself: “Can I afford not to get enough sleep each night?”  So what?  I didn’t get enough sleep.  How bad can it be?  Well let me tell you just what’s at stake. Lack of bed-rest can compromise both your emotional and physical health.  Sadly, this also has steep ramifications for your work life, too.

Lack of Sleep & the Workplace

If you’re at work, look around.  Who did you decide to avoid today?  Why?  Are they in a bad mood?  Well, it may be that person didn’t get enough “sack time” last night.  Or worse, maybe the last few nights.  In fact, Research conducted by Laura M. Giurge at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands, found that even one night of too little sleep may lead to unwanted behavior at work the next day.  The study concluded that lack of bed rest may weaken a person’s self-control.  This leads to destructive behavior.  In fact it can even lead to thievery at the workplace.  According to the Rotterdam School of Management, employees’ “misbehaving” at work adds up to the about $200 billion a year in the U.S. alone.

Children Suffer Too, Even Years Later

Do you know a child that excessively acts out?  Research shows lack of sleep may be the cause.  However, research also shows sleep deprivation can have serious repercussions later on in life. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in Boston used evaluations conducted a study involving over 1,000 children.

While bed rest duration between the ages of 6 months and 2 years was not linked to later behavior, sleep at ages 3 to 4 was. Those who slept less than 10 hours a day at age 3 or 4 had lower scores on executive function and behavior at age 7. Likewise, 5- to 7-year-olds who slept for nine hours a night or less also had lower scores.  “Insufficient sleep in the preschool and early school years is associated with poorer behavior in mid-childhood,” the researchers concluded.

Cutting Rest for work has the opposite effect

In addition to leading to obesity, many diseases, and premature death, sleep also makes you less productive.  In fact, keep that in mind when you’re working on something late at night instead of going to bed.  The next day will more than negate that extra hour or two of work you did last night instead of going to bed. Many research projects show that lack of sleep will adversely affect many aspects of workplace performance.  According to research published in Sleep Medicine Reviews, here are just a few: excess absenteeism, more accidents at work, decreased productivity, lack of career progression, and lower job satisfaction.

Nutrition and Sleep

Of course the problem is that once you get into the habit of sleep deprivation, it’s difficult to change.  However, the proper nutrition can help.

And while I don’t diagnose or treat any disease (including insomnia), I can help support a healthy sleep cycle.  I provide this support with a specific plan. And this plan usually includes custom dietary changes and the correct enzyme supplements. Of course I only make recommendations after scientific testing based on sound medical principles.

Are you concerned about your sleep cycle?  Does it affect your job, family or fun? If so, give us a call and set up a consultation. I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life. I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis (BIA). In fact did you know that both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America rely on BIA? These tests help me determine if you are a good candidate for care. If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

DAWC040 Listener Questions on Wellness

Listener Questions Episode 1 – Dr. Andy Responds to questions listeners emailed through the week…

Listener Questions Episode 1 – Don’t miss this amazing episode of Dr. Andy’s Wellness Corner.  In this episode, Dr. Andy compiles a list of listener questions emailed to him over the past weeks.  In fact he addresses each question thoroughly and accurately.  He also cites the source of his research for each answer.

In fact some of these questions reveal the risk of a medical emergency.  If you or a family member suffers in a similar way, you may want to listen in so you can go to the emergency room if necessary.  Other questions compare and contrast medical opinions versus natural opinions.  Still other questions relate to women’s health and her cycle.  In addition, other questions deal with mental health and digestion.

Dr. Andy gives a very detailed answer to each question.  He also outlines the inner workings of each solution detailing how they work, why they work and the research behind them.  He also goes into the differences between the chiropractic and medical education, and why each is an expert in their own field.  However medical education on nutrition is very limited and lacking compared to other health care professions.

Another listener asks why some MD’s are more “pushy” about medicine than others.  Your host, Andy Marrone, D.C. goes into a number of probably causes.  Additionally, he even relates his own experience when he was working in his dad’s office as a file clerk at a much younger age.  Yes, His dad is an MD.

Who are the Nutrition Experts?

Nutrition Experts – It never fails.  I’m consulting with someone in my office about enzyme nutrition.  I tell the basics on how enzymes work, and why they are vital to nutrition and health.  Everything I tell them is medical fact.  In fact, you can find the information in any physiology textbook.  Then I hear the almighty words “Let me run this by my medical doctor…”

Nutrition Experts – Ah yes, the almighty ever known M.D.  Before I delve into the differences between chiropractic and medical education, I need to be clear.  Medical doctors are experts in their field.  In fact they are well educated in that field.  I want to be sure I don’t take anything away from that.  However, they are NOT experts in nutrition.

Before I get into that, let me compare the chiropractic course work to that of the medical field.  Did you know we use the same textbooks?  We both study the same anatomy text book, the same physiology textbook, the same biochemistry textbook, and the same disease text book.    Where our education differs, however is in several areas.  First, medical doctors spend more time studying disease and traumatic injuries.  That makes sense as the bulk of their care is crisis care.

Chiropractors, however, spend way more time studying spinal movement, neurology, radiology and nutrition.  In fact the average medical doctor receives about 19.6 hours of nutrition.  I, on the other hand have studied over 200 post graduate hours on nutrition.  This information comes from American Medical Student Association), in collaboration with The Pew Charitable Trusts.  Again, M.D.’s are experts in their field, and no one is taking that away from them.  However, when it comes to nutrition, who is the nutrition experts?

Medicine Validates Chiropractic

Medicine Validates Chiropractic

Medicine Validates Chiropractic – Do you suffer from chronic back, low back or neck pain?  Have you been avoiding the chiropractor because of the negative press?  Did you know that chiropractic is safe, effective and natural?  In fact research from JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association validates this.

Yes, it’s true, medicine validates chiropractic.  I hope you’re sitting down.  In case you didn’t know, chiropractic uses specific corrections to correct spinal bones.  The purpose is to restore spinal alignment.  This improves posture, movement, decreases muscle spasms, and restores health.  And while it also helps with pain, chiropractic is about more than pain.  It takes pressure off of vital nerves so your body can work properly.  In fact, less than 8% of the nerves in your body deal with pain.  The other 92% control every function in your body.  The research shows that a very high percentage of people under chiropractic care not only had lower pain levels, but improved function as well.

In fact, pain reduction was 91% and functional improvement was just over 70%.  That’s higher than just about any other treatment type.  JAMA published this research recently; April 11th, 2017.  However, along with the research JAMA ALSO included an article as to why Medical Doctors were hesitant to refer to chiropractors.  Mainly because science still cannot explain why it works.  Of course, this is according to the MD’s.  I have tons of research showing how this amazing treatment works.  However, even if the mechanism behind chiropractic isn’t clear, research shows it still works.  In fact scientists fail to understand why many medications work, or what causes certain diseases.  That, of course doesn’t invalidate them.

A Complete Approach

At Redmond Ridge Nutrition & Chiropractic we use a unique combination of specific corrective adjustments.   We skillfully perform traditional or low force care, gentle traction, home exercises and enzyme nutrition.  The purpose is to improve all of the tissues causing your problem for a more complete solution.  Of course it’s also vital to support healthy tissue repair, which is where enzyme nutrition comes in.  In fact we will never perform a chiropractic adjustment on you that is either unsafe, or makes you feel uncomfortable.

Do you suffer from neck, back or low back pain?  Does it affect your work, family life or active lifestyle?  If so, give us a call and set up a consultation.  I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis, which is trusted by both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  This will help me determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Enzymes help Asthma, Research Shows

Enzymes help Asthma, Research Shows – Do you suffer from asthma?  Does it stifle your active lifestyle?  Sadly, up until now you could only manage the symptoms.  And while that’s super important, new research supports the use of enzymes to help with asthma.

Check out our radio show – Thursdays 4-5PM

AM 1150 KKNW, kknw.com, or FM 98.9 HD band 3,

or on a radio app from your smart device

Enzymes help Asthma.  According to the CDC, asthma affected over 26 and a half million Americans in 2010.  According to the Asthma foundation it has been on the rise since the 1970’s.    That’s about 17% of Americans, or one in 5 or 6.  That’s also about a 25% increase since 2001.  It is projected to increase by over 30% by 2030.

Sadly, modern medicine can only manage the symptoms, or respond to an attack.  Now I’m not understating the importance of that.  An asthma attack can be lethal, so when it flares up, intervention can save your life.  As always, I am very grateful for modern medicine’s ability to handle crisis care.  However, that seems to be all they can do.

Asthma is An Allergic Attack

Asthma is basically your body’s immune system overreacting to an allergen.  When this happens, certain immune cells go into overdrive.  This leads to inflammation, and constriction of the airways in the lungs making breathing very difficult.  It can also worsen with exertion.  In fact 3 out of 5 asthma sufferers are forced to limit their physical activity because it could risk a serious flare up.  Additionally, nearly 1 in 2 children miss at least a day of school each year because of their asthma. And nearly 1 in 3 adults miss at least 1 day of work each year because of their asthma. Asthma also interferes with your daily activities:  as I said earlier, nearly 3 in 5 people with asthma limit their usual activities because of their condition.

How Enzymes Help Asthma

However, researchers at Johns Hopkins showed subjects missing a specific enzyme had T cells that were out of control.  These specific T cells are part of your immune system.  When they’re out of control they can cause an asthma attack.  This enzyme, SGK1, keeps those T cells under control.  As a side note, subjects in the study also developed fewer tumors.  This shows that the same enzyme may be helpful in the treatment of certain types of cancer.  Of course what the medical community wants to do is mimic this behavior with a drug, rather than supply the enzyme to a patient who is deficient.  However, it’s nice to see the medical community validating my work.

Our Approach to Respiratory Health

It’s important to remember that I don’t treat any disease.  This, of course, includes asthma.  However, we can support healthy function of your liver, immune system, skin and kidneys.  We can also support healthy digestion.  Now I know what you’re thinking, what do these have to do with asthma?  When your immune system overreacts, it’s because there’s something in your body that shouldn’t be there.

The Body’s Filters

Just what keeps them out?  Your body has three main “filters”, which are your liver, kidneys and skin.  It’s also important to look at digestive health because there are only two ways into the liver.  They are through digestion or from the blood stream.  There are also numerous studies showing chiropractic care helpful in support for healthy breathing.   Once specific testing identifies the source of stress, we use a combination of specific chiropractic care, dietary changes, and the right enzyme supplements to help your body work properly.  Of course a properly working body doesn’t suffer from health problems like asthma (but again, I don’t treat asthma).

Are you concerned about respiratory health or immune health?  Does it affect your work, family life or active lifestyle?  If so, give us a call and set up a consultation.  I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis, which is trusted by both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  This will help me determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.

Saffron Boosts Mood and Helps with Depression

Saffron boosts mood: Several studies from Iran and China show that saffron is just as effective as Prozac at improving your mood.

Saffron boosts mood. Depression is now an epidemic.  Did you know that it’s on the rise in this country at an alarming rate?  In fact about 1 in 10 Americans suffer from depression, according to US Reports.  What’s more is that experts believe depression will be the number 2 cause of disability worldwide by 2020.  While many turn to prescription drugs for help, these meds come with some very serious side effects.  In fact, if you follow my articles, you know that some of these drugs increase your risk of suicide.  Sadly, in many cases they also fail to help. Did you know that about 90% of patients suffer from at least one serious side effect from these medications?

As a result, natural healthcare providers and their patients want a safer way to support healthy mood. That’s were saffron may help.  In fact other countries use Saffron for depression.  Fortunately, research suggests saffron is just as effective as most antidepressant pills.  These include Prozac and Imipramine.  However, saffron doesn’t have the adverse side effects.  Did you know that traditional Persian medical practitioners use saffron for depression?  Iranian researchers state that saffron may work in the same way as many antidepressants. In fact, two compounds in saffron help stabilize several brain chemicals that boost mood.

Enzymes and Healthy Mood

Another key factor in mental health is protein metabolism.  People who suffer from anxiety or depression often can’t digest, absorbing use protein properly.  In fact your body needs protein to make the chemicals that regulate mood.  Of course that’s where enzyme nutrition comes in.  Enzymes help vital nutrients get past a stressed body.  And while I don’t treat disease (including anxiety or depression) I can support both healthy mood and healthy brain chemistry.  Of course our testing is scientific and based on sound medical principles.  The solution typically involves dietary changes along with specific enzymes based on your test results.

Do you suffer from mood disorders, depression or anxiety?  Does it affect your work, family life or active lifestyle?  If so, give us a call and set up a consultation.  I will personally sit down with you and talk about your suffering and how it affects your life.  I will even do some preliminary testing as well as Bio Impedance Analysis, which is trusted by both NASA and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.  This will help me determine if you are a good candidate for care.  If you’re not, we’ll make every effort to provide the proper referral.
